Supermarkets Continue to Wave the Green Banner

As the supermarkets continue to flash their green credentials, Tesco is the latest to come to my attention with a leaflet sent with my Clubcard statement. 'Little Steps to Being Greener' includes information on their green initiatives including offering green Clubcard points for reusing bags, offering recycling facilities, making their stores energy efficient and offering 'a wider choice of green products'.

More information can be found at the Tesco website.

Renewable Energy Grants Set to Drop

There is much press and industry talk at the moment regarding the Low Carbon Buildings Programme grant scheme. Currently suspended, it goes live again at the end of this month but with much reduced grants for homeowners. Solar photovoltaics and wind turbine installations are having their grants cut from a maximum of £15,000 and £5000 respectively to £2500.

This follows enormous demand for the grants. Funds are allocated on a monthly basis and there have been a number of occasions when the allocation has run out within hours. The government has therefore decided to reduce the grants in order that more homeowners will be able to receive something. This has been heavily criticised, however, as many feel that this will simply reduce the number of applicants as many will be unable to afford the remaining costs.

National Work From Home Day

Work Wise Week 2007 will run from Wednesday 16th to Tuesday 22nd May with Friday 18th May as National Work From Home Day. The idea is for businesses to allow their employees to try out working from home, which would help to reduce congestion. There are of course potential other benefits from a business, personal and environmental point of view.

For more information visit the Work Wise UK website or take a look at the article from The Energy Saving Trust.
