The Green Story - for Budding Writers

If you have always fancied being an author and are interested in the environment, the Green Story from Green Metropolis could be your chance to give writing a go! The book recycling website has launched the Green Story creative writing competition with entrants getting the opportunity to see their green chapter in print! For more information visit the Green Story website. The deadline for the first chapter is 21st February 2008 (there are three books on the go, children's story, teen story and adult's story).

New Batteryless Electronic Toys!

British company Russimco are about to launch their new range of batteryless electronic toys, which are considered to be unique worldwide. You can check them out at the London Toy Fair from 30th January to 2nd February, or visit their new Ecotronic website for more information.

In their recent press release Russimco had the following to say:
"Ecotronic... is based upon the dynamo science of the wind-up radio and will appeal to a wide range of ages. Russimco believe that their ground-breaking, ecologically sound design will permanently change the way people think about electronic toys, waving a goodbye to the wastefulness of battery consumption."

greenCHAT Goes Live!

UK Energy Saving's first greenCHAT newsletter has now been distributed and is live on the main website. The headline topic in this inaugural issue is recycling, with links to pages within the UK Energy Saving site as well as other sites of interest.

Marks & Spencer's Latest Green Initiative

Marks & Spencer have teamed up with Oxfam in their latest green initiative as part of their 'Plan A' scheme. People donating M&S clothes to Oxfam shops from the end of January will be offered a £5 voucher to spend in an M&S store (in conjunction with a sale to the value of at least £35 in the following month). The scheme has been put together to encourage clothes recycling and reduce the amount of textiles going into landfill sites. For more information on the scheme, visit the Oxfam website.

Big Green Challenge Application Process Open

Back in October we let you know about the launch of the Big Green Challenge, which offers a £1 million prize fund for the group with the best energy saving ideas. Npower Price Rises
